Contributed by The Stems This tape is one of many I made between 1984 - 87 during my time with the Stems, and I'm not exactly sure when this one was made, but I'm guessing it's an early one ... 84 or 85 - I still liked REM back then. I retrieved this one off my brother Laurie who over the years has assumed the role of the Stems archivist. So thanks to him some of these things still exist. This tape would have been played at local shows and on tour during the intervals, before and after the support band and at the end of the show. We used to have a regular sound engineer who would be in charge of playing the tapes and there'd be 2 or 3 tapes to choose from at any one time. Hours were spent selecting and recording 7" singles and album tracks to cassette tapes. I was heavily into sixties music and guitar oriented rock and roll and would carefully select the tracks to compliment the band and the show. As the band gained in popularity I was making specific tapes that were around 30mins long to be played before the band were to appear on stage. These would culminate with the bands introductory tune. Some of these tunes included the theme from Johnny Quest, Barbarella and Dance with the Devil by Cozy Powell. This tape contains mostly 60's psychedelic garage tunes, some well known and lesser known 60's hits and tracks from some of my favourite guitar bands of the time. |
