Contributed by Mixed Songs Creator: Nat Carson This was a first-ever attempt at a mix tape, I was about 7 years old. As a kid I used to see commercial compilations like "Summer Hits '84" or "With A Bullet 1982" in record stores. This various artists concept seemed like a pretty good one, and so began a cottage industry to replicate this phenomenon using records from the family collection, hence the appearance of Dire Straits, Bruce Springsteen, and the like, courtesy of my Dad. By the looks of things the tape was made in two sittings, as two different pens were used to write out the tracklist, plus Elton John has accidentally made it onto both sides of the tape with the same song, "Li'l 'Frigerator" (or "I'll Frigerator" as I've called it... twice). Some of these songs now don't even ring in the most distant memory. "Dusty Pages", "Baby Wants To Rock", and "Life Gets Better" all draw question marks for artist, lyric, melody, haircut, or anything else really. |
